Home Buying - Where To Start?

Right here! You start here! The home buying process can be overwhelming whether you’re a first time buyer or a seasoned homebuyer. The true key to a successful transaction, though, is making sure you hire a competent, experienced real estate professional. Mendenhall Properties takes a team approach to serving homebuyers. We’ve assembled the best lending partners, title partners and contractors to help you through the process. Our network is far and wide and everyone works with each other for one goal in mind – getting you to the closing table so you can realize your goal of homeownership.

Homeownership is a financial decision and we always take time during our consultation to discuss your financial goals and how homeownership fits into those plans for you.

Step 1: Talk To A Lender

Homeownership is a financial decision and we always take time during our consultation to discuss your financial goals and how homeownership fits into those plans for you. To help the conversation, we always suggest speaking to a lender prior to our initial consultation. We can put you in touch with several lending partners – the choice of your lender is always yours. We’ve worked for many years with our lending partners and know they can deliver on their promises. If you would like some recommendations, ask us. Knowing your buying power is a key component of the homebuying process, but it’s not the only one. We’ll work within your budget to identify neighborhoods, properties and areas that meet your ideal home… Speaking of your ideal home...

Step 2: Tell Us About Your Ideal Home

First, think about the neighborhood – what do you envision as your ideal neighborhood – are there trees, a wide street, a narrow street – are the homes small or large, close together or spaced apart? Then think about your home – what style is the exterior – a brick front colonial, contemporary, modern, detached, semi-detached or some other style? Of course, the interior is just as important – is it an open concept, do you prefer walls to separate rooms, how many bedrooms and bathrooms – is parking important? Finally, where do you want to be – Virginia, DC or Maryland? Being licensed in all three areas gives you flexibility as a buyer. All of these are important features to consider and we’ll help you through those discussions during our initial consultation.

Step 3: Schedule A Consultation

In our initial discussion, we’ll talk about your buying power, your goals, your ideal home and neighborhood, and your timeline. We’ll also take time to talk abuot the homebuying process, what you can expect from the first time we go to see homes all the way through to the closing table. The process isn’t simple and that’s why you need an experienced agent that knows the market like Mendenhall Properties does and that can guide you through the entire process. The consultation is free and we’ll take the time to get to know you, your goals and explain the process. So go ahead – click below and send us a note – we’ll schedule a time to talk!
